Administrative information

Switzerland is divided into 26 cantons which represent about 2500 counties. Four languages are officially spoken: German being the most widespread with about 75% of the population, followed by French (20%), Italian (4%) and Rumantsch, a local dialect, now only spoken by less than 1% of all Swiss citizens.

Arrival

Upon your arrival, you will be referred to the cantonal office of immigration; every office deals with requests separately although they are backed by federal laws. However, keep in mind that the Migration Office of each canton keeps a relative autonomy in their decision.

You can find various forms related to obtaining a work and residency permit in Switzerland on the Swiss Confederation Website.
